Beyond The Fringe.

Image
It's that time of the year when the Edinburgh Fringe is about to kick off so what better thing to do than plug-a-pal with info regarding the fantastic Paul Wady's 10th (!) Fringe appearance with the rather spiffing Eccentrics Assemble – Guerilla Autistics Year 10.   So as the old ad said, pay attention here's the science part... (Un)Comfortably Numb.

Well after almost 3 years of trying to sort out something as simple as assistance for college travel for the girls (you can find the whole tale on this blog if you're interested) and now trying to do it for our youngest too the constant grind of social work inactivity/not caring/general incompetence coupled with the constant pile of endless paperwork (be it for bursaries or accidentally cancelled adult DLA or guardianship) I can finally say I'm done. I literally have no energy (or fucks) left to give. I can't think of any organization in Glasgow - from education to local authority to local government or social work) that actually seems to care about Autistic issues at all and I'm worn out. Emotionally and physically. Our kids are 20 and 18. The ONLY support we've ever requested in nearly 20 years is help getting them to and from college. That's it. Nothing else. And guess what? We're still waiting. Fucking brilliant eh? I'm actually typing thru blurred v

Here We Go Again....

Great news stories to wake up to on a Sunday morning. Not even going to link to the article as it's your usual ABA tinged, gluten-free bollocks that talks about curing those tragic children 'trapped by and suffering from' Autism (and I quote) turning them into a child that "presents today as a joyful, engaging, spirited, extremely bright four-year-old."   To be fair tho' the entire article is littered with the kind of tragedy-porn bollocks we hoped had been consigned to the bin in 2024 - and I don't just mean language like 'recovery from' and 'suffering from' Autism. And the photos and captions are a joy to behold*: No mate, he just thinks your pubey beard and tragic man-bun look shit.   They really don't like us just existing do they?   *There are more of these photographic marvels here if that kinda thing floats your boat. You're welcome.

Space is The Place!

Celebrating 55 years of the first manned moon landing (and my lifelong love of the Saturn V rocket) with 60 minutes of s pace age sounds and retroactive rhythms...enjoy!

That Friday Feeling.

Yay, just had our regular phone call from Social Work explaining why they can't put any support in place for our kids...  I'm beginning to think Glasgow lied about becoming Europe's most Autism-friendly city by 2024, luckily I'm getting stress-induced chest pains so that's taking my mind of it. Happy Friday everyone.  As an aside for those of you who've not been following the whole sorry tale and are wondering what we've asked for in relation to support (I know you're probably imaging we asked for a gold carriage pulled by unicorns or something) all we've actually asked for is a support worker to help the kids get to college. That's it. And almost 3 years on we're no further. Pathetic isn't it?

Arting About (again).

And Now For A Fest.

Really proud - and fairly excited - to (finally) announce that AUTISM PLAYS ITSELF will have its UK premiere at this years Edinburgh Film Festival on 19th of August at 12:15 as part of the Out of Competition Shorts Programme.   And as a special treat to all of you planning to attend myself and the rest of the the team will be doing a Q and A session post screening.    You lucky people!   And here's the link if you want to purchase tickets. See you there!           Film summary:    A film shot in 1957 at the Maudsley Hospital, London, captures children under observation for atypical behaviour. In the present day, three autistic respondents watch the footage, offering new and insightful interpretations of the children’s actions. Through speculation and identification, with wit and audacity, the responses forge a new soundtrack from an autistic point of view.

Part Politics II.

Image
Remember how of late I've posted about how absolutely no political party seems to care one bit about the Autistic community with no mention in any manifesto come election time? Well fear not, as it seems that Reform UK’s Chelmsford PPC, Darren Ingrouille has something to say on the matter: What a guy.

Celebrating the birthday of the late, great Godfather of Autistic cinema Ken Russell with this 1974 interview with Andre Previn where he talks about his love of music and his desire to make films that are accessible for all, explaining - in a way better way than I could - about visualizing music (something I've posted about before).   Click here to view .   Enjoy.
