That's Life!

Well hitting the end of what's turned out to be a fairly interesting Autism Acceptance Month (I'm being kind) and realized that I've not felt this burned-out (both physically and mentally) for years.     Then it hit me that I'm actually just coming to terms with the fact that nothing has change in regards to the ongoing issues we're dealing with (from housing repairs to Social Work woes and a complete lack of any support - you can read about it here ) alongside a few new ones thrown in (up?) for good measure. Yes, we're still having to escort the kids to and from college (and in Cassidy's case stay with him all day) but now with the added stress of the girls college completely fucking up Embeth's application for next year and none of the staff involved appearing to actually either turn up at work or be able to answer emails. And they say we have a communication problem. It's just another thing in the whole 'death by a thousand cuts' situatio...

I see that GB News' Deputy Political Editor, Presenter and (I quote) "I do real news" man Tom Harwood is back to targeting Autistic folk again , yup it's our fault the bins aren't getting collected. What is it he's got against Autistics?  Did one of us refuse to fuck him at some point? Seriously someone needs to stage an intervention.   Or at least give him a bloody good slap.   Oh and Happy Autism Acceptance Month (still) everyone!

Making Plans For Nigel.

For anyone who said that RFK Jr's utterly mental views on Autism wouldn't happen here I give you Nigel Farage....     More here - and can I just add that  a fucking slap is too good for these people.

This Sounds Legit....

And not at all eugenically sinister.... To be fair tho', with how rigidly we stick to our routines we're not really gonna be that hard to track....         But on a more serious note it's like Spectrum 10K all over again. More here .

What a fantastic way to end Autism Acceptance Month - (brain) worm addled, vaccine hating madman Robert F Kennedy Jr. makes a stand against Autism whilst referring to it as a virulent disease before hiring David Geier (who was fined by Maryland regulators for practicing medicine without a license) to conduct an analysis on the links between autism and vaccines.   Geier, if you recall, was the guy who spent years illegally treating children with hormone blockers, claiming it would “detox” their autism.   As a plus point his press conference was so awful that it managed to persuade  ASAN and Autism Speaks to release a joint statement which is the Autistic equivalent of Doctor Who and Davros getting drunk at karaoke before having a furtive snog in the taxi home.   Luckily all the virtue signalling social justice friends we all know (and secretly loathe) on social media jumped to condemn Kennedy's speech and stand in solidarity with us and our American brethren ...

Autism Acceptance Week 2025: The Grand Finale.

Image
You never listened to a word that I said You only seen me from the clothes that I wear Or did the interest go so much deeper? It must have been to the color of my hair   So it's the final day of Autism Acceptance Week 2025 (it allegedly continues for the whole month but let's be honest most folk get bored by the end of the first day) and time to give a round-up of the highs and lows of this years celebration of all things Autistic. As expected  none of the major political parties posted a fucking thing about it, neither did the Prime Minister or the First Minister up here or any MPs/MSPs, none of the schools or colleges the kids attend mentioned it and aside from a few NAS volunteers at our local Morrisons it seemed to be largely forgotten as usual. Tho' my AUTISTIC t-shirt seemed to make a few folk uncomfortable whilst I was out buying toilet roll so swings and roundabouts really.  It wasn't all bad tho' as at least an animated sheep remembered. Wh...

Autism Acceptance Week 2025: Its A Fact.

Autism Acceptance Week 2025: Thinking Allowed.

Image
It's the penultimate day of Autism Acceptance Week 2025 so reckoned I'd go a wee bit serious and talk about the differences you see (online and in the 'real-life') 'tween Autistic parents and 'Autism parents'. And before anyone jumps in I'd like to point out that this isn't an angry hate piece written from on high about how one group is better than the other but more about have the differences can be utterly confusing and at times a wee bit freaky.*  And this is exactly how these scenarios play out. Fact. I covered something similar years and years ago and had kinda forgotten about it till this week when I began to notice (again) that the Autism Acceptance Week posts in general were very different 'tween the actually Autistic and those who aren't.   As a plus point they're not as scary as the overzealous stuff Ive seen in the past ( that was all used up the other week after the reports of PIP cuts ) but occas...

World Autism Acceptance Week 2025: A Bit Of A Blur.

Image
An Autism Acceptance Week repost that might - or might not, it's your choice, I'm not your mum - be of interest to those wanting a wee peek into the fabled 'Autistic Mindset'. Or more likely just interested in my work. Don't forget I'm available to hire. Either way, knock yersel' oot as they cry up here.     A couple of years back top music-type fella - and all round nice bloke - Paul Laird wrote a new book - The Birth and Impact of Britpop. And why the blatant plugging I hear you ask. Well type but you get the picture. It's because I did the illustrations for it and it's kinda interesting as to why I got so excited when Paul approached me. You see when I get approached to do a project the one thing I need to find (in order to actually do it) is a personal 'hook' - no matter what the subject matter or style it has to be something that gets me excited. Simply put if I don't feel I 'get' the subject (even in a small way) th...

World Autism Acceptance Week 2025: Sith Happens.

Image
With the laydees away today at a dance performance in Stirling (ably aided by Ro) Cassidy and I were left to entertain ourselves today.  And what a top day we've had. As regular readers (and folk who know us) will be aware, Cassidy absolutely loves The Riverside Museum in Glasgow ( especially the Sinclair C5 ) and today we realised there was a special "Festival of Fire" event being held by the Scottish Fire Brigade Heritage Trust showcasing both past and present Firefighting appliances and the rich history of the fire service in Scotland. And let's be honest, what proper Autist doesn't love a fire engine?  Alongside the fire engines (and fantastic assortment of vehicles on display) there has been of late a rather nice mini Star Wars exhibition on too, featuring a variety of droids, vehicles and characters that both Cassidy and the girls had visited previously which was finishing today so I thought brilliant we can go see that again too! Day sorted....

World Autism Acceptance Week 2025: Spectrum Sinema.

Image
Yes, dear reader(s) it's that time of the year again where I drag this out for its annual - albeit slightly rewritten - World Autism Acceptance Week airing.     You may not know/care that in 'the real life' I spend the time between drawing stuff for a living and wandering around meeting various folk to find out what they actually want me to draw (it keeps me off - well on - the streets I guess)  inanely blogging about films.  And sometimes (not often mind) serious organizations will even ask me to talk about them. As was the case with the Autism Through Cinema project who invited me to wax lyrically - and probably a wee bit over-excitedly - about THE greatest animated movie ever, Disney/Pixars Cars . And there are other occasions when I'm actually involved in making them . By the way you, if that wasn't sweary enough for you, you can find my usual cinematic ramblings here but beware as it's frequently not safe for work according to Google. And it's...
