Campus Conversations.

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to be invited on Glasgow Kelvin College's Campus Conversations podcast to talk about working as an illustrator especially the work I'd done related to film-making.   Big thanks to the team - Shawn, Morgan, James, Sam, Lewis, Jack, Stacey, Cian, Erin, Chloe, Dylan and Daniel - for having me and managing to put up with my incessant chatting!

Just a quick post to cheer up your day. Was getting the train to college with Cass this morning (as I always do) and it was surprisingly busy, no seats together except on the triple/table seats which as luck would have it, is where Cassidy likes to sit. True there was a guy sitting there but it still left 5 seats. Or it would have if he hadn't spread his bags across the 2 seats next to him and laid his jacket out on the other side.  Obviously Cass went to sit down where the jacket was as the guy loudly tutted, then sighed and finally lifted his coat. And all whilst glaring intensely at Cassidy. Who blatantly ignored him.  A man on a train for illustrative purposes.   This failed (and frankly embarrassing) attempt to intimidate Cass seemed to make the guy angrier and as I politely said "Thanks so much for moving your coat, he absolutely loves this seat and tries to get it everyday!" whilst making sure Cassidy's Sunflower lanyard was on show he just stared the pair of...

Lazy day at Autastic Towers today, the girls are away at a dance performance so Cassidy and myself have a boys weekend (well boys day and a bit) to look forward to. No rushing to get set for college and acting as an (unpaid) personal assistant (thanks Social work) and no stressful rush hour journeys to contend with. We've had a day of shopping (planned by Cass), Playstation (chosen by Cass), tidying (he offered) and finally a snack and relax whilst watching various episodes of the Sylvester McCoy era of Doctor Who (which is quite honestly THE best era of the classic show. Fact).   Doctor Who (back when it was good).     And best of all this fairly easy going week means that my Psoriasis doesn't feel like hundreds of tiny blades slashing my skin for the first time in about 6 months. And I actually slept more than 5 hours last night.   You see, we've had a bizarre turn of events since Cass started college way back in August - he's now walking hands free (mostly), chatt...

Delia Derbyshire: Audiological.

Celebrating the utterly Autistic (I'm claiming her, deal with it) genius of Delia Derbyshire, the high priestess of British electronic music on her birthday.  Nuff said.

Well after the complete shitstorm of this years Autism Awareness Month I needed a wee bit of light relief so decided to take the plunge and binge the eight-part Australian-British comedy drama series Austin that recently 'dropped' (as the cool kids say) on Iplayer over here in 'Great' Britain.   Starring Michael Theo - who I originally knew from the Australian version of Love on The Spectrum and since then have avidly listened to on his brilliant Mr A+ podcast - as the title character, a 20 something Autistic guy discovering his real father isn't a sperm donor but in fact Julian Hartswood (Ben Miller), a much celebrated English children’s author recently cancelled for accidentally reposting a Neo-Nazi comment on Twitter. We've all been there. Seeing the idea of having a long lost son (especially an Autistic one) as a road to getting his career back on track Julian throws himself into getting to know Austin, even hiring a film maker to document the events, much ...
