Breakfast Birthday!

Image
"I don't think I've ever drunk champagne before breakfast before. With breakfast on several occasions, but never before, before."   Happy birthday to THE greatest book ever written....BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S   And for your listening pleasure, here's Truman himself reading an extract. Enjoy.

Say Hello, Wave Goodbye.

Absolutely fucking gutted here today, was waiting for Amelia to finish college and found out via X that Dave Ball had died at the tragically young age of 66, so I spent a fair bit of the afternoon sitting on the steps of GoMA listening to Soft Cell on my headphones whilst trying to process the news. And yes, I'll admit there were tears.  You see, as folk who know me (and who've read this blog) will attest, Soft Cell are my favourite band - and Marc Almond is my hero. But that's for another day. I've already posted about the importance of Marc and Dave way back in 2022 but wanted not just to repost it but add a little more Dave to the mix. A kinda text remix if you will. I hope he'd approve.    Being the awkward Autistic artsy teen constantly picked on in school, obsessed with horror films, sci-fi and Warhol, Marc and Dave were a lifeline and Soft Cell's dark electropop perfectly encapsulated everything I felt...and everything that terrified me too....   The person who gave me the big push to start drawing seriously again (then years later slagged me off for listening to him when drunk!), the guy who gave my wife and I our 'comic bonding' experience and the co-creator of the character our wee boy-child is named after.   Remembering Steve Dillon on The Anniversary of his death.

Well had a few weeks of fun things here - to be fair it's been half term so no 6 AM starts and plenty of time to spend doing cool stuff with the kids - so it'll be no surprise that we're now in the back to reality zone, fighting against the clock to update our motorbility claim as for some obscure reason they'd changed my name on the claim so we couldn't log in(!), first day back at college for the girls has been blighted by late buses, changed routes and breakdowns meaning a 2 hr turnaround has taken 3 (yep, Rho is currently stranded in town) and Cass has (finally) figured out the locks on the living room door which means 4 hours of sleep and being rudely awakened by him bombing around the house with all the lights on and everyone's (charging) phones and laptops switched on and used for nefarious (Wayback Machine and CBeebies) based shenanigans.  Oh and the fact that he's not slept either means double Autistic over-tired mentalism is running the house this ...

As ever, just in time for Halloween....(almost) every single horror/cult/Eurotrash themed mix from the infamous Man With No Suitcase pre-club I used to run in 'sunny' Glasgow...and more.   Just the right thing to get your party going with a bang. Probably.

Hart Beat.

BOTD 1925 - Tony Hart. One of my art heroes, was lucky enough to 'assist' him at a National Playday event in the 90s...got my shirt signed by him at the end of the day! Treasure it always!

Here for your listening pleasure is Blue Azure's rather marvelous monthly music show featuring (around the halfway mark) my  weird and wonderful mix of Euro-centric cinema soundtracks.   Was a pleasure to do and bizarrely the first time we've ever collaborated on something (outside stop-motion movies as kids) in 48 (!) years of friendship. And yes he's correct when he says I probably know the exact date we met.     And for anyone interested, here's the tracklist 1. G. Lolli – Chiaroscuro (Chiaroscuro) 2. Riz Ortolani - Shake The Disco (Cosi Dolce...Cosi Perversa) 3. Sigi Schwab, Manfred Hübler - The Lions And The Cucumber (Vampyros Lesbos) 4. Stelvio Cipriani - La Polizia Sta A Guardare (Theme) 5. Bruno Nicolai - La Coda Dello Scorpione (Seq. 1) 6. Goblin - Profondo Rosso Theme 7. Riz Ortolani - Beat Fuga Shake (Tiffany Memorandum) 8. Giuliano Sorgini - Manchester M2 GLD (The Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue) 9. Stelvio Cipriani – Bay of Blood (Theme...

  Autistics with their 'special interests':

Autistic Mindset Movie Annoyances (Part 1).

Image
A few (oh so slightly pedantic) Autistic mindset movie annoyances to break up the usual grumpy posts.   Enjoy safe in the knowledge that your brain doesn't work like this.        In the movie Kiss Me Deadly a doomed female hitchhiker drags PI Mike Hammer into a deadly whirlpool of intrigue, murder and suspense as he tries to uncover the secrets of a mysterious package. All well and good but at no point in the film are kisses shown to be lethal.         The movie is called Seven Samurai but only six of them are actually samurai.       13 Assassins  - They're not assassins but actually samurai (oh yeah and a crazy bloke who lives in a forest).       Star Trek III: The Search For Spock  - They don't have to search for him, they know his body is on the Genesis planet.           Alien Resurrection  - It's not the aliens that are resurrected but Ripley (and they get Fu...
