I've posted about music - and music related stuff - on loads of occasions, especially after a late night chat regarding my fairly amazing autistic memory bank and the ability to remember exactly where and when I heard my favourite
songs or saw my favourite films for the first time in minute detail.
For
example Tears of A Clown, 30 April 1975....followed a news report on
the fall of Saigon, I was sitting cross legged in front of our old
stereo in the maisonette we lived in in Coseley (or Wallbrook as the
area was known then).
Oh yes, and we had this wallpaper (I insisted).
Anyway, in a musical vein (see? it all links together) and to add a wee bit of fun and hopefully brighten things up this Autism Acceptance Week (fudge knows I need it) I thought I'd do a post about Autistic type tracks, basically songs I feel sum me up or I just enjoy!
Hopefully you might too.
First up (from me) my own personal Autism anthem....
And the song that reminds me of the podlings and their pals....
I've also appropriated 'Losing Sleep' by the genius that is Edwyn Collins as a top 'Tism tune too! :)
Special interests anyone?
Rho kindly added that this sums things up for her!
Teenage years?....got it covered!
In more ways than one...
Dating?
And
if we're at the whole dating/relationships/emotional thing then this -
but mainly because it's probably THE greatest song and vocal performance
ever committed to vinyl....and the only pop tune that can reduce me to
tears every time....
Hmmm....should really cheer the thread up a wee bit...
If stimming was a song.....
Oh you like film and music? Well cinema sounds don't get more Autistic than this....and Quorra's haircut was cool too.
Sticking
with teenage kicks and cinema, this is a go to for me as it's from
probably THE best movie about alienated youth ever....the mighty Times
Square....goosebumps.
And while we're at it, I can't ignore the song from the soundtrack that's by an #actuallyautistic singer....
Mighty
mixes of music and movement are always a thing in our house....and Cass
is no exception - he's obsessed with this....and why not? The Aquabats Pool Party!
To be continued....
plus as a wee treat you can listen to the whole thing here:
Been a really hard few days trying to process everything regarding that incident in Leeds this week where an Autistic teen was brutally (yes really) harassed and manhandled by the police for the heinous crime of being a wee bit tipsy and saying a police officer "looked like her lesbian nana" and how it feels as an Autistic parent. A group of children, including Autistic ones in a lovely Mental Deficiency Institution (1956). Over 60 years since the first medical mention of Autism in the UK and here's where we are. I really don't have the words, we're seen as absolutely nothing to the majority of folk. Absolutely not a lesbian grandmother on Thursday. Seriously it's fucking terrifying - A says she's a lesbian and gets really excited if she sees what she thinks is another lesbian when we're out as she feels like she's 'seen' or belongs... E does that (very Autistic) thing of calling everyone 'she' (me, Ro, Paul McCartne
It's that time of the year again where I drag this out for its annual airing. Enjoy. In those dreamy pre-Coronavirus days, I'd spend the time between drawing stuff for a living and wandering around meeting various folk to find out what they actually want me to draw (it keeps me off - well on - the streets I guess) I spend most of my time inanely blogging about films. Now I just do that constantly obviously. You can find my ramblings here but beware as it's frequently not safe for work according to Google. And it's probably not safe to read at home too. Especially if you care about the proper use of grammar. Anyway thought I'd share one of the rare (semi) serious posts I do occasionally over there as it seems fairly relevant. You see a few years back I got into a discussion with my partner in crime (and token NT person in the house*) Rho about how most films dealing with Autism are pretty turgid affairs full of struggle, heartache and defying the od
Well Blade Runner fans we made it! Yup, the movie is no longer science fiction seeing as from today it's set right here right now. Well it;s only really right here if you're reading this in Los Angeles but you know what I mean. Anyway thought that was as good a reason as any to repost this plus if enough folk leave me nice comments it may be the boot up the arse I need to finish it. Nothing like hinting for (faint) praise is there? Well at least I'm honest. A while back I submitted an academic paper on the fun filled idea of Ridley Scott's classic Blade Runner (1982) being the most Autistic movie ever made. Yes, I know I need to get out more. Anyway, turns out that although the folk concerned liked it the whole thing didn't really fit in with the conference in general so unfortunately couldn't be presented. Me not fitting in? Imagine that! To be honest tho' I've enjoyed the research and groundwork so much that I'm tempte
