Je suis un Bad Man.

Sorry I was bored, plus I need something to cheer me up with all the housing shite.

Delia Derbyshire: Audiological.

Image
Celebrating the utterly Autistic (I'm claiming her, deal with it) genius of Delia Derbyshire, the high priestess of British electronic music on her birthday.    Nuff said.

Doctor! Doctor!

Happy 75th birthday to  the Pleasant, Open Faced 5th Doctor himself, Peter Davison.  His era of the show was when I transformed from being a wee boy who was a fan of the show to a fully paid up 'enthusiast'.   Oh yes and attending Longleat!     Even Embeth's a fan which shows remarkably good Doctor Who taste!

Hanni-Birthday.

First broadcast OTD 2013 - THE most stylish - and Autastic -  teevee show ever,  Hannibal. Will Graham is (still) my Autistic spirit animal.   And yes, you could say I'm a fan.

Happy Twin Peaks Day!

This is gonna turn out like that Twilight Zone episode 'To Serve Man' isn't it?

Doctor What?!!?

Decided to pop the 1977 Lively Arts documentary Whose Doctor Who on today whilst working.     Obviously I've watched it loads of time before but it's usually something I have on in the background, only really paying attention to the clips - and to take the piss out of the contributors hair and fashions.  So you can imagine my surprise when I actually sat down and listened to 'expert' contributor John Miller, an educational psychologist who not only discussed the impact of the show's "scary bits" on children but came out with this little gem too....   Fucking Hell.

Stranger Sounds.

Can't believe that it's 42 years today since Will Byers went missing.....Remember the day with 60 (very) odd minutes of strange sounds from the upside down:

It's been 8 years since 2 drunken photoshops I hastily bunged together became more popular than anything I've ever actually drawn.... says it all really.

Gregg Said.

Image
Well I never had former Masterchef host (and most popular art piece on my Redbubble shop, no really) Gregg Wallace down as the person to chuck Autistics under the bus for the sake of his career on my 2025 'Tism bingo card but there you go. And how did we get to this heady point?  Well, way back in late 2024 a series of allegations of inappropriate behaviour (dating back to at least 2012) were made against the former jolly greengrocer by a number of female contestants . His original defence was, um interesting to say the least:  Which as you can imagine went down well with 51% of the population, luckily tho' when that didn't work he at least he listened to this bit of advice from his 'friends':     Realising that the accusations weren't going to go away Gregg doubled down in November '24 and got those same 'friends' to announce that his inability to keep his penis in his trousers was due to him being Autistic. And even better, according to them, he wa...

Wallace And Gobbie.

It's slightly annoying to find out that myself (and my kids) appear to be have been doing Autism wrong all these years...maybe the struggling to fit in and make sense of the world in general has gotten in the way of the 'real' misogynist/predatory Autism that all the celebs have.   Seriously tho' it's hard enough being Autistic without every slightly famous Tom, Dick or Gregg jumping on the bandwagon and blaming their every dodgy indiscretion on the all encompassing 'Tism.  Put it this way you can be Autistic and be an utter shitebag around women but 'the Autism' has f#ck all to do with it. It means you're actually just a shitebag. And that concludes my TED Talk. Thanks for listening.

Austin Power.

Well after the complete shitstorm of this years Autism Awareness Month I needed a wee bit of light relief so decided to take the plunge and binge the eight-part Australian-British comedy drama series Austin that recently 'dropped' (as the cool kids say) on Iplayer over here in 'Great' Britain.   Starring Michael Theo - who I originally knew from the Australian version of Love on The Spectrum and since then have avidly listened to on his brilliant Mr A+ podcast - as the title character, a 20 something Autistic guy discovering his real father isn't a sperm donor but in fact Julian Hartswood (Ben Miller), a much celebrated English children’s author recently cancelled for accidentally reposting a Neo-Nazi comment on Twitter. We've all been there. Seeing the idea of having a long lost son (especially an Autistic one) as a road to getting his career back on track Julian throws himself into getting to know Austin, even hiring a film maker to document the events, much ...

Amy: You told me you had a time machine. The Doctor: And you believed me. Amy: Then I grew up. The Doctor: Oh, god. You never want to do that.           15 years ago today THE greatest era of Doctor Who began...looking back I don't think Amelia will fit into her Amelia Pond outfit anymore, tho' the Matt Smith jacket may fit her now....

It was 20 Years Ago Today....

Peachy Keen.

Still processing the death of David Lynch here, like Bowie he's been a huge presence/influence on my life since I first saw Eraserhead as an impressionable 14 year old film fan and I'll admit it now that all of the sinister subtexts, oppressive sound designs and dark humour was lost on me at the time - I just saw a director speaking exactly the same language that I did and I fell in love with his work (in that way only an obsessive Autistic can) immediately. I could wax lyrically for hours about how influential Lynch was and how his work was truly groundbreaking, throwing in tales of my days at art school when an unknown student (for reasons only they were aware of) spent 6 months leaving photos of Henry Spencer in my locker, how at one of the Peachy Keen Lynch nights Rho and myself hosted a guy turned up who was the spitting image of Killer Bob - we thought he was in fancy dress for the night but it turned out that he was just there for a drink with no idea who Bob was (he di...
