What A Wallace...

Image
Thought we'd gone passed the whole let's blame Autism for inappropriate behavior thing that seemed to be the fashion a few years back but no, teevee foodie Gregg Wallace has jumped in with his 'friends' blaming his inability to keep his penis in his trousers on him being Autistic. And even better, according to the story, he's never been tested because he feels guilty that he may have passed down the neurological and developmental disorder to his four-year son Sid, who is severely autistic and non-verbal . Feeble excuses for abusing women AND guilt tripping (because Autism is a tragedy that should be pitied obviously.) in one sentence....amazing.  Obviously the fact that I've never stripped naked, put a sock on my cock and waved it around in front of my female co-workers means I'm obviously the wrong type of Autistic. Either that or Gregg's pals are talking shite. You decide. Have a great weekend all. As an aside I'm also a wee bit pissed off as G...

Thought For The Day.

Image
The joy of living in a world where it's going to be easier and quicker to access assisted dying than it is to access support for the disabled. I feel sick to my stomach. And mine is that my children are treated with kindness and dignity. But that's not going to happen.

Delia Derbyshire Day!

Image
Celebrating the utterly Autistic (I'm claiming her, deal with it) genius of Delia Derbyshire, the high priestess of British electronic music.  Nuff said.

Update (mate).

Image
Well you'll be pleased to know (possibly) that I can actually hear again after a week of horribly tasting antibiotics and slimy eardrops, typically my 'restful' week has been fairly hectic between meetings with the Alasdair Gray Archive (exciting project stuff), the aforementioned exhibition launch in Stirling and tonight I'm off to  the Autism Cross-Party Group meeting at the Scottish Parliament.  And yes I promise to behave.   Tomorrow booze!

International Mens Day: Let's Here It From The Dads!

Image
Seeing as it's International Mens Day I thought I'd reshare the top Autism dad chat (featuring a fair few Actually Autistic peeps) we did for Scottish Autism a few years back....   Enjoy.

"I Was Cured Alright!"

Image
Yay! In an excited turn of events Susan Acland-Hood - Permanent Secretary at the Department for Education (DfE) fact fans - has decided that Autism isn't really a thing because we're all a little bit Autistic and it's a spectrum or something. Oh joy. As a plus point it's not like they can cut support any further seeing as there's fuck all in place to begin with. And breathe.

Autism Through An Autistic Lens.

Image
In a change from the usual Social Work shenanigans and the like here's some photos from the opening of the Autism Through An Autistic Lens exhibition I was involved with, currently showing at The Tolbooth in Stirling. Enjoy.

Anti-Social Update.

Image
We have an update on our Scottish Social Security story from t'other day! It seems that no-one has any idea as to why/how a letter was sent out saying we hadn't filled in the forms because everything is actually fine. For all the issues we've had with their (new) computer system and lack of mail send outs I have to say that every member of staff I've dealt with have been absolutely great (maybe Social Work should take note) even managing to not get annoyed/freaked out by my sometimes draining Autistic manner. Which is nice. Next stop, awaiting the 1:1 interview which, luckily, will be held at home. Phew. Still taken 6 months tho'. My life....everyday.

Anti-Social.

Regular(?) readers may remember way back in June when Social Security Scotland cancelled Cassidy's disability payments due to them accidentally not sending us a letter to say it needed updating. This was, if you recall, not long after the illustrious Scottish Government stated that: "Swapping over disability payments to Social Security Scotland will  be much easier than that pesky PIP as well as being less intrusive and more humane...Also Westminster incompetent and bad!" Well at the time we were told that even tho' it was their mistake we'd have to re-apply for the whole thing which wouldn't be that bad (actually it was) but it also meant having to wait till the schools were back to get covering letters etc meaning we spent the summer with a junior Social Worker accusing us of not trying to fill the forms in quick enough before suggesting we just "change the date" on the old support letter. Which as we all know is fraud. This has impacted on Cas...

Ear Ear!

Image
Bloody typical....got a packed few weeks of Scottish Parliament meetings, exhibition openings and work with the Alasdair Gray archive and my stress-related  psoriasis has flared up leaving me totally deaf (yes, I actually get it in my ears....bizarre I know).  This has come as a huge surprise as there's absolutely fuck all to be stressed about at the moment. Cheers Social Work . It should be OK tho' because according to them Cassidy is more than capable of traveling to and from college on his own....even tho' he needs 1:1 support and is almost totally non verbal. Rant over for now.

Money Matters.

Image
So Glasgow City Council are hemorrhaging cash...who could be to blame?    Us obviously.   Oh and for anyone spouting off about the mobility element of disability is meant to pay for it (I'm looking at you X)  there's actually a 'distance/travel' criteria for ASN pupils that's totally separate from it (as Douglas Hutchinson, head of education pointed out...the letter can be found here ). You're welcome.

Autism Plays Itself Review.

Image
Just came across this lovely review on IMDB and wanted to share:

Who Knows.

Image
Did Steven Moffat just out himself as one of our mob?  It kinda all makes sense if he did.

Max Factor.

Image
Absolutely no-one goes to the doctor and says "Hello I'm awkward!" then gets an Autism diagnosis..... Dr Max should really just fuck off with his clickbait nonsense.   I'd post the link but to be honest right now I really can't be arsed.
