Counting Down....

...to World Autism Acceptance Week/month/fortnight/Day (no-one is ever sure) 2025.     So from Wednesday 2nd April get ready for 7 days (or more) of rambles, rants and vaguely amusing tales of an Ash-based Autistic nature that may contain embarrassing cult movie mentions and pictures of dodgy haircuts but mainly old stuff repurposed for those new to my blog but with a wee bit of newness too in the vague hope of getting a few more readers....work/life permitting.   Tho' this years post maybe slightly more annoyed than normal.   And if you're wondering, according to the UN, the theme for  World Autism Day 2025 is "Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)", which highlights the intersection between Neurodiversity and global sustainability efforts, showcasing how inclusive policies and practices can drive positive change for autistic individuals worldwide and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs . Right.  S...

Disco Mania!

Image
With all the utter shite (and associated stress) going down at the moment it's great to be able to take time out and relax, which is what I did last night, spending the evening in the fab company of the legendary film critic, horror expert, Frightfest host, top Disconnoisseur and one of my movie heroes Alan Jones as he waxed lyrically about his new book Disco Mania and treated us to a rare showing of Music Machine...a top slice of disco heaven!   Movies (and music) are a life saver. And the artwork in question?

Here We Go Again....

Not content with rushing thru' an assisted dying bill that will in no way affect disabled folk the lovely caring, sharing Labour Government have decided (in England at least) to cut disability benefits (the black triangle badge for those still able to claim is obviously still in the post).   Anyway alongside this education secretary Bridget Phillipson has decided that the farcical excuse for SEN education support needs cutting too. To be fair tho' I was actually surprised that there was any in place to begin with. Luckily those lovely normal folk of Great Britain have taken to X (formally Twitter) to show support for the disabled community. And by support I mean start ranting about mobility payments of all things. And all whilst referring to folk like myself (and my kids) as "having a touch of the 'Tism".   And we're the ones who are meant to lack empathy and understanding.   To all of you joining in with this fucking awful, uneducated behavior I just have on...

The Stimming Pool.

Image
Upcoming film showing alert!     The Stimming Pool - for which I produced some rather fine background art - is getting a cinema release across the UK from 28 March (with the support of the BFI, awarding National Lottery funding) including at my local cinema, the Glasgow Film Theatre, where a relaxed screening of the film will take place on Monday 7 April, 6.00pm as part of their Access Film Club.   The screening will be hosted by GFT’s Access Film Club host, Random Coyle. They will be joined by some of The Stimming Pool filmmakers and the Director of National Autistic Society Scotland, Rob Holland.
