College Update.

Image
For those (still) interested in the whole college support debacle that's been going on for 3 years now(!) here's a quick update on how Cassidy - and myself - have been getting on attending 3 days a week without the necessary support. Well we've managed the first month and he's loving it which is good, still no word from Social Work regarding a support worker/assisted travel for him so I'm still having to take him/work with him every day, effectively doing my old job for free. Which is nice. Downside is that with both myself and Rho having to escort the kids to and from college 3 days a week it's leaving precious little (re: no) time for other stuff like laundry (house is still not repaired so the water pressure is still too low to use the washing machine), applying for/attending guardianship meetings or re-applying for Cassidy's adult disability payment seeing as Social Services Scotland 'accidentally' cancelled it and the like plus the rush hour tra...

Once More With Feeling...

News just in! THE RUTGERS CENTER FOR ADULT AUTISM SERVICES (RCAAS) has just published the results of a high quality long term research project that proves that we're actually fully formed people with emotions and everything! Who knew?   Seriously academia, try better.

It's been a wee bit grim around here of late so what better way to cheer everyone up than with every "Ka-Chow" From Cars.* You're welcome.  *In case you hadn't realized I bloody adore this film and you should too.

Update!

As regular readers of this blog may have realised, the majority of my posts of late have been taken up with recording the ongoing debacle that is accessing support in Glasgow. As well as the lack of anything remotely pertaining to that I've mentioned the fact that when Cassidy turned 18 Social Security Scotland 'accidentally' cancelled his disability payment, we've had to wait till now to re-apply as we needed a letter from school (it was the holidays) and we've been snowed under with little things like trying to organise a house rebuild, guardianship, working, being the sole carers of three disabled kids, shopping, sleeping etc. so it's been pretty fraught. Anyway, woke up this morning to a letter saying that Cassidy has to attend a 1:1 interview to assess his claim. Yup, our 18 year old, almost totally non verbal son who needs 1:1 support 24 hours a day has to go for an interview to prove he's disabled. Oh and he needs photo ID and a driving license too. A...

Just A Thought....

Been watching with interest the pro-immigration/anti-immigration rallies in George Square in Glasgow today (girls are at a dance performance in town so checking their route is OK) and j ust wish that this many people in the city cared enough (or at all) about the complete lack of provision, support and duty of care for the Autistic community that they would stand up and march and campaign for us.... Not gonna happen tho' is it?

Social Work Update no. 675.

Image
It's time for the exciting weekly social work update! Well it would be weekly but they forgot to call last week. Anyway after much to-ing and fro-ing it appears that nothing can be done regarding support until a new assessment is completed. Not to worry tho' because they've said that they understand that the current situation is a wee bit stressful so that's OK. So another 3 year wait then? As an amusing aside my (stress-related) psoriasis has flared up again so the left hand side of my head is now solid and I'm completely deaf in that ear. Fan-fucking-tastic.
