The Whole Tooth.

 The girls had their first appointment with the NHS Learning Disability Health Team last week - the team were fantastic and went out of their way to make them comfortable by the way so kudos to them - and part of the assessment was to put things in place to make doctors/dentists visits etc. easier for - in our case - Autistic (young) adults.


 

Which is great because Amelia has broken a tooth and due to a mix of sensory issues around her mouth coupled with an abject fear of dentists hasn't wanted to go get it sorted.

The LD Health Check team took this into account and made a referral thru' our doctor's surgery for her to see a specialist dentist with experience of Autistic/LD patients.

A brilliant idea you might think.

Us too.

Obviously the specialist dental team don't think so as I've just found out that her referral was refused, it seems that she can only see the specialist team if she first registers with a regular dentist and has a probably traumatizing  examination to prove that she actually needs to see the specialist team which by that point she probably wont want to do as the initial appointment would be so upsetting.

Why is everything so fucking complicated?

    Absolutely fucking gutted here today, was waiting for Amelia to finish college and found out via X that Dave Ball had died at the tragically young age of 66, so I spent a fair bit of the afternoon sitting on the steps of GoMA listening to Soft Cell on my headphones whilst trying to process the news. And yes, I'll admit there were tears.  You see, as folk who know me (and who've read this blog) will attest, Soft Cell are my favourite band - and Marc Almond is my hero. But that's for another day. Little Big Prannet.

Regular readers may have seen the post from a few weeks back regarding the removal of the seating used primarily by disabled students and their support staff at  City of Glasgow College and how it'd been replaced by a large, self-congratulatory poster. Looking into the issue I became aware that the college principal ( and Chief Executive Officer) Paul Little was behind the decision so decided to email him about it. Alas I received  no reply. As luck would have it I bumped into him in college today and  actually got a chance to discuss it with him.
